Southport Area Guide

Just below Wilmington, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the big city sits Southport. This picturesque village, home for centuries to boating men and women, lies in wait, ready to hypnotize you with its charm and sense of fun. Come by and explore Southport and soak up the ambience of a town where Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate, was repairing his vessel in a nearby creek when he was captured. Other fun things to do will make it hard to leave, no matter when you have to get back to work! For more information about Southport, visit: http://www.southport-nc.com/

History

First visited by French and Spanish explorers in 1524, Southport has always attracted sailors. The first European vessel constructed on this new continent was built on the banks of lower Cape Fear River! Today, Southport stays connected with its roots, offering one free transient spot for boats at the end of the dock in the town harbor.
